Improved Access

You can now make an appointment to see a health professional in a GP practice outside of usual working hours of GP surgeries. The scheme works by getting a group of practices together so that they can open up in turn at the new times.

If you cannot access an appointment at your own surgery it is now possible to access available appointments at other surgeries in your area. Our practice provides evening appointments every Tuesday evening but if one of these appointments does not suit your needs then please speak to reception. We can help arrange an appointment at one of the other practices on an evening that we do not provide appointments or on a Saturday morning when we are closed. Please contact our reception during normal working hours and we will be able to advise on where an appointment may be available. (Please be aware that clinicians at other practices will need your consent to view your medical record should you have an appointment at another practice)

The following surgeries are offering Improved Access to all patients in the North Sedgemoor Federation:

    • Mondays- Burnham Medical Centre, Love Lane, Burnham on Sea

    • Tuesdays- with us here in Cheddar and Axbridge Medical Centre, Houlgate Way, Axbridge.

    • Wednesdays- Burnham Medical Centre (as above)

    • Thursdays- Highbridge Medical Centre, Pepperall Road, Highbridge

    • Fridays- Brent Area Medical Centre, Anvil House, Brent Road, East Brent

    • Saturdays- Rota shared between Burnham,  Highbridge, Brent Area and Axbridge surgeries

Appointment types will vary, some being face to face and some on the 'phone and there will be a mixture of pre-bookable and same day appointments available across the week. They may be with a doctor but could also be with another healthcare professional such as a primary care practitioner or a nurse. We are keen to balance the importance of continuity of care with convenient access for patients whilst ensuring that the service is safe.

To book an evening or weekend appointment please contact your registered practice during normal opening times, this will help us to signpost you to the most appropriate option for your particular problem. By contacting us we can fully explain the process, ensure that the booking is appropriate (as we hope to be able to meet your needs by offering an appointment with your usual GP) and cover all the relevant information (and consent) that we need to before we book an appointment for you.
